BRENTWOOD

Nestled within the historic streets of McComb, Mississippi, Brentwood stands as an architectural masterpiece, weaving together a tapestry of Neoclassical Revival splendor and historical significance. Brentwood was honored by being placed on the National Register of Historic Places in March 1989. Mr. Hilborn Holmes and Evie Elizabeth Mixon Holmes built the home in 1912 with the finest millwork and materials, making Brentwood a beautiful architectural and historical mansion. Mr. Julius H. Brent and Elizabeth Kennedy Brent visited the house, fell in love with it, and purchased it in 1939.

Step beyond the threshold of Brentwood to discover a realm of opulence and meticulous craftsmanship that commands attention from its site on 601 Delaware Ave. This beautiful two-story brick mansion rises up with its magnificent facade that leads into leaded glass doors, sidelights, and transoms. The grand porch features Ionic cypress columns, beautiful balustrades, and is crowned with a French ceramic tile roof. The interior of the mansion is adorned with 12-foot ceilings decorated with plaster medallions, 9-foot pocket doors, 8 fireplaces with ornamental mantels, 5 grand bedrooms, and beautiful heart pine floors. The two-story staircase leads to a stunning stained glass window.

Mr. Julius Brent and his wife Elizabeth were leaders in McComb. Mr. Brent was a Representative in the Mississippi Legislature and owned Brent’s Grocery Store and later, Brent’s Specialty Shop. He loved to help the community and was instrumental in constructing many buildings in McComb. The Brents loved Brentwood and the families and visitors that graced their home. Brentwood stands as a testament to their vision and dedication to architectural excellence, and they wanted to preserve its heritage for future generations to cherish.

Today, under the ownership of Phil and Elizabeth Dunnaway, Brentwood continues to enchant visitors with its timeless allure and historical significance. Julius H. Brent and Elizabeth Kennedy Brent's granddaughter, Elizabeth Walker Dunnaway, and her husband Phil Dunnaway, along with great-granddaughter Alicia Estis and her husband Marty Estis, are dedicated to preserving the architectural integrity of Brentwood. Their commitment ensures that the estate's legacy endures as a beacon of light, refinement, and grace in the heart of McComb.
